How to protect your security online

With so many of us having to resort to online shopping at present, it is more important than ever to protect ourselves online. More and more scams are coming to light to try and steal our personal information and identity and you must be aware and on the lookout for these.

Phishing emails are a common way in which you can be hacked. They will often look like they have come from a genuine company such as Tescos or even HMRC. Often, they will tell you that there has been a problem with your account and you need to log in or that you have a refund waiting for you which you need to accept. They will provide a link for you to click on which will take you to a page which probably looks exactly like the login page for the genuine site. IF you enter your username and password you will probably see a message to say that its incorrect or simply nothing will happen. This is because at this point, they already have your login details. They can then login into the genuine site, change your password and email so you can no longer log in and then possible place orders using your account or simply steal your details.

Never click a link in an email if you are unsure as to if it is genuine. Always visit the site through Google and check that it is authentic.
