Connecting to a network

Many of us use a laptop or smart phone / tablet when out and about and often we will be given the option to connect to an unsecured network. A network can be secured and will require a passport to access it or it may be unsecured meaning anyone who wants to can connect their device.

The issue with unsecured networks are that people may be able to use software to view what you are doing on your device and therefore obtain passwords / sensitive information. When connecting to any network firstly find out if it is secure, if it isn’t then I would not log on to banking or sites that I need to input a password etc. Even with secure networks, if the password is open to everyone or easy to obtain, you still run the risk of being spied on.

Ideally keep all secure activity for your home network and always ensure that you have a good quality antivirus installed on your device.
